Did you know that The Genealogy Center in the Main Library downtown has an extensive collection of local yearbooks? Yearbooks are not only a fun way to reminisce, but they can also be helpful in identifying people in old photos you may have. For your convenience, The Genealogy Center has a color scanner directly across from the yearbooks. If you find a photo that you’d like a copy of, it’s easy to scan the page and send it to your email, and it’s free to do so.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that most of us have at least one embarrassing yearbook photo which will haunt us for the rest of our days — I have two that make me cringe. Just think of it as a rite of passage — I do. I’ve learned to take comfort in the fact that while I still have bad hair days from time to time, they’ve decreased drastically since I stopped cutting my own hair. And that photo of me that looks like someone’s just told me something incredibly shocking? It’s the perfect image to use for a story focusing on the reaction of Twilight fans to the Kristin Stewart cheating scandal. I also take comfort in the fact that I’m not alone — check out this collection of un-rockstar-like photos. For even more fun, check out this collection of celebrity yearbook photos! Amy Winehouse looks adorable but Shia Labeouf reminds me of some of my goofier photos.

Your photo above isn’t goofy at all! You look totally “in” for those “rad” ’80s!
Thanks, Dawne! I like this photo okay, even though I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from perming my hair . . .
